Space impacts my work, in color and subject matter. The quality of light and the energy of a place play a significant role in the creation of my artwork. My home studio faces north and overlooks our Zen garden. I can witness how the incoming light and energy change in quality throughout the day.
Life events also bring their own energy that reverberates in me affecting my thoughts, feelings and perspective. Sometimes the events and the thoughts and feelings they evoke are in conflict and often I find my mind generating images that I then transform into a meaningful piece of art that informs or teaches me a new way to view these events. I can trace the influences that light, whether in a physical or spiritual energy, and experiences have had on my art.
